Zimmerman Trail Reconstruction

Zimmerman Trail

PROJECT SUMMARY:

This project – through a successful partnership between the Montana Department of Transportation and the City of Billings – will reconstruct Zimmerman Trail from Rimrock Road to Highway 3.  There will be a right turn lane added to the south end of the project at the intersection with Rimrock Road.  On the north end, a roundabout will be constructed to allow safer and more efficient access onto Highway 3.  The project includes structural improvements to Rims both above and below the road to improve the stability of the rock face.  The guardrail will be replaced and signing updates will be made to improve the safety along the corridor.  A pedestrian tunnel will be constructed across Zimmerman on the near Highway 3 for future connections to a trail that connects Zimmerman Park to Swords Park.

CLOSURE NOTICE:

Zimmerman is currently closed for the construction of the project.  All vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic shall not enter the project limits.  Traffic is being detoured using Highway 3, North 27th Street, and Rimrock Road.  A temporary traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of North 27th Street and Rimrock Road to alleviate traffic congestion at this intersection.
