Team Members
The Billings Police SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team consists of 13 members who are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Team members include hostage negotiators and marksmen who are highly trained and disciplined to make precision rifle shots from several hundred yards away. The team also utilizes less lethal weapons such as the Taser and various chemical agents.

Members are selected for the SWAT team based upon:
  • Firearms proficiency
  • Street performance
  • Decision making abilities

Members train rigorously 20 hours a month as a team. Each member receives an additional 20-30 hours of tactical training each year outside of the team training. Many SWAT members hold instructor certificates in various disciplines and provide instruction to other department members and law enforcement agencies around the state.
