The City received an additional $190,430 in stimulus funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Funding was used to assist households with acquisition and weatherization.
Neighborhood Stabilization Program
The Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 provided $19.6 million in CDBG funds to the Montana Department of Commerce (MDOC) to acquire and redevelop foreclosed properties that might otherwise become sources of abandonment and blight within its communities. In addition, the funds can be used to purchase foreclosed or abandoned homes and to rehabilitate, resell, or redevelop these homes in order to stabilize neighborhoods and stem the decline of house values of neighboring homes. The Community Development Division was approved by the Corporation for National and Community Services regarding sponsoring a VISTA project to build capacity in Billings to impact poverty and homelessness. Funding for the initial year of the project was provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
